PhD project: Developing a biomaterial to facilitate neuroregeneration and functional recovery after traumatic brain injury
Supervisors: Prof. James Phillips (UCL School of Pharmacy) and Dr. Aminul Ahmed (Wolfson SPaRC, King’s College London)
Eszter is a PhD student on the BBSRC-London Interdisciplinary Doctoral (LIDo) programme, working on a collaborative project between the UCL Centre for Nerve Engineering, UCL School of Pharmacy and Wolfson SPARC, King’s College London. Her research focuses on optimising and developing a biomaterial to promote neuroregeneration and functional recovery following central nervous system injury, such as traumatic brain injury (TBI).
Background:
Eszter graduated from the UCL School of Pharmacy in Pharmacy (MPharm) in 2022, where she undertook her final-year research project in pharmaceutics supervised by Prof Mine Orlu. After qualifying as a registered pharmacist following her foundation training year, she joined the BBSRC-LIDo PhD programme in 2023. In her first year, she completed two four-month rotation projects: one in Regenerative Medicine based at UCL, and one in Materials Chemistry at the Department of Chemistry, King’s College London. Her current PhD project is a continuation of her rotation work, which combines tissue engineering, immunomodulation, and neuroregenerative strategies to develop an advanced therapeutic for TBI.
