Project: Local delivery of mRNA formulations to improve peripheral nerve regeneration
Supervisors:
Prof James Phillips, UCL School of Pharmacy
Dr Rachael Dickman, UCL School of Pharmacy
Dr Chris Morris, UCL School of Pharmacy
Tianyang Liu is a PhD student in the Centre for Doctoral Training in Transformative Pharmaceutical Technology, funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC). Her doctoral research focuses on developing innovative RNA-based therapies for peripheral nerve regeneration.
Based in the Phillips Lab, Tianyang also works as a research assistant, contributing to translational research projects. Her work includes advancing tissue engineering strategies for peripheral nerve repair, particularly through the integration of human mesenchymal stem cells in engineered neural tissue (EngNT).
As part of her CDT training, Tianyang gained industrial experience at GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), where she worked as a visiting scientist on the development of paediatric formulations in an industrial setting.
Prior to beginning her PhD, Tianyang worked as a formulation scientist at a UCL spin-out company called Optceutics Ltd, specialising in long-acting ocular drug development and ocular model validation. She holds an MSc in Pharmaceutics with Distinction from the UCL School of Pharmacy, and a first-class BSc in Pharmaceutical Science from China Pharmaceutical University.
