MSc Neuroscience research project:
Neuropathy is a common complaint after peripheral nerve damage, which leads to symptoms such as aggravated pain, pain to non-painful stimuli and spontaneous pain. Previously it has been reported that intra-epidermal nerve fibres (IENF) are important in neuropathy.
Under the supervision of James Phillips (tissue engineering), Erik Walbeehm (plastic surgery) and Tom Ruigrok (neuro-anatomy), I am developing a 3-dimensional cell culture model in order to learn more about growth and regrowth patterns of IENF. This research project is a collaboration between the Open University and the Erasmus Medical Centre Rotterdam.
